Glenburn

Heading north through Yarra Glen and Dixon's Creek toward the town of Yea sits the largely rural community of Glenburn. This small hamlet is located within picturesque rolling hills and valleys only 80 kms from Melbourne CBD. We stretch either side along the Melba Highway and are part of the Murrindindi Shire. We are a District more than a town and Local community activities include our Hall and Progress Association and the functions it organizes throughout the year, a Craft Club and Garden Group. Neighbourhood Watch is an important aspect and, of course, our local CFA is an integral part of our small but vibrant community. Farming, (cattle, sheep, dairy) and a local vineyard (Penbro) form the major sector in the region complemented by an increasing number of people of all ages that are now moving into the area.

We too were hit badly by the Black Saturday fires, when we lost many houses (7) and our historic Hotel. Fortunately no lives were lost in our Community. The damage suffered  was most significant but it could have been a lot worse if it had not been for the vigilance of our CFA, our local well prepared  Fire Guard Groups, (with the assistance of private fire units), and the help from the Sugarloaf Pipeline Staff and their resources.

The header photo on the Glenburn Community web site is of the heritage swimming pool at Devlin's Bridge and the side panel taken from 'Tikaluna' Old Murrindindi Rd looking NW. The Koala below was also taken on 'Tikaluna'.
